INTERVISTA A CELIA AARON

Abbiamo il piacere di condividere con Voi, l'intervista che l'autrice Celia Aaron  ha concesso al nostro blog (A cura di LadyAileen e la traduttrice Cristina B.):

Dear Celia, thanks for accepting our invitation, tell us a little about yourself. When did you start writing?

Ciao Celia, grazie per aver accettato il nostro invito, raccontaci un po' di te. Quando hai iniziato a scrivere?

Thanks for having me! I've always been a writer. I used to write "Choose Your Own Adventure" stories (with badly-drawn illustrations) when I was a kid.

Grazie per avermi ospitato! Sono sempre stata una scrittrice. Da piccola scrivevo "Choose Your Own Adventure" (con illustrazioni non proprio perfette). ***Choose Your Own Adventure è una serie di Librigame per bambini dove ogni storia è scritta in seconda persona, nel quale il lettore assume il ruolo del protagonista e facendo determinate scelte determina le azioni del protagonista e lo svolgimento della trama.***

Is Celia Aaron your real name or a pseudonym? If it is a pseudonym, how did you create it?

Celia Aaron è il tuo vero nome o è uno pseudonimo? Se si tratta di uno pseudonimo, qual è la sua origine?

It's a pseudonym. The Celia part just came to me. I picked Aaron based on a Key and Peele skit called "Substitute Teacher" that had me howling with laughter.

E' uno pseudonimo. Celia mi è semplicemente venuto in mente. Ho scelto Aaron sulla base di uno sketch della serie televisiva Key & Peele dal titolo "Substitute Teacher" che mi aveva fatto morire dal ridere. 

Where do you pull inspiration from? Would you describe a typical day for a successful writer like you?

Come nasce un tuo libro? Come si svolge la giornata di una scrittrice di successo come te?

I pull inspiration from everything--things I read, movies I watch, places I visit, people I observe. A successful writer day is 4k words and a shower.

Traggo ispirazione da tutto--cose che leggo, film che guardo, luoghi che visito, persone che osservo. La giornata di uno scrittore di successo è riuscire a scrivere 4000 parole e fare una doccia.

What do your friends and relatives think about your stories? How do they support you?

Cosa ne pensano i tuoi amici e parenti delle tue storie? Come ti supportano?

My husband is my biggest cheerleader. He always reads my books first and gives me good feedback.

Mio marito è il mio più grande sostenitore. E' sempre il primo a leggere i miei libri e mi dà buoni consigli.

Why do you just write Dark Romance?

Perché scrivi solo Dark Romance?

I don't. I write all sorts of romance. I actually have a romantic comedy out right after Christmas called "You've Got Fail." But dark romance is something that I will always write, because I keep coming back to it, no matter what.

Non è così. Io scrivo vari tipi di romance. In realtà subito dopo Natale uscirà una commedia romantica dal titolo "You've Fot Fail." Ma il genere Dark Romance è qualcosa che scriverò sempre, perché non riesco a togliermelo dalla testa, nonostante tutto.    

We know that you decided to self-publish for the Italian market. How did you come out with this idea? How do you know your translator?

Sappiamo che hai deciso di auto pubblicarti per il mercato italiano. Come è nata questa idea? Come hai conosciuto il tuo traduttore?

I actually have a deal with a publisher for a couple of my other books, which are coming out soon. I wanted to do a self-published title to compare. The translator was recommended to me in the RARE (Romance Author and Reader Events) group on Facebook. I'll be attending the RARE signing in Rome on June 23, 2018.

In realtà ho un accordo con un editore per un paio di miei libri, che usciranno presto. Volevo far uscire un libro autopubblicato da confrontare. Il traduttore mi è stato raccomandato nel gruppo FB RARE (Romance Author and Reader Events). Parteciperò il 23 Giugno 2018 a Roma al RARE per il firmacopie.

Do you Know that there are foreign authors that self published in Italian language without Classical publisher? they use Babelcube.com. Have you ever heard about it?

Babelcube is a services where there are no upfront costs. It is free to translate a book and then convert it into the different file formats, publish it, update things like pricing, and track sales. This is a true partnership. Everyone —the rights holder (author or publisher), the translator, and Babelcube— make money as the book is sold through the sharing of royalty revenue.)

Never heard of it.

Io scavo. È quello che faccio. Utilizzerò una pala per rispondere a una domanda, letteralmente. Tuttavia, alcune risposte sono rimaste sepolte troppo in profondità, per troppo tempo. Ma troverò anche quelle. E so dove scavare - la Tenuta Blackwood, sul margine del delta del fiume Mississipi. Garrett Blackwood è l'unica cosa che si interpone tra me e la verità. Un uomo spezzato - che possiede desideri capaci di danzare nella parte più oscura della mia anima - che è mio salvatore o mio nemico. Scaverò fino a quando non scoprirò tutti i segreti. Let’s talk a bit about your book Blackwood. How did you come up with the idea?

Raccontaci un po’ del tuo libro Blackwood. Come è nata l'idea?

I really wanted to write about a primal dom, which is what Garrett is. And I loved the idea of working a murder mystery into it.

Avevo proprio voglia di scrivere di un dominatore rude, come Garrett. E mi piaceva l'idea di lavorare su un caso di omicidio.

Let’s talk a bit about Garrett and Elise. How did you come up with these characters?

Raccontaci un po’ di Garrett ed Elise. Come sono nati questi personaggi?

Garrett had to be a gruff recluse, so I built him around that ideal. Elise had to be tenacious and smart, so I built her around that ideal.

Garrett doveva essere un solitario rude, così l'ho costruito in base a quell'ideale. Elise doveva essere tenace e intelligente e così l'ho costruita attorno a quell'ideale.

If your novel Blackwood would become a movie, which actors would you like as the main characters?

Se anche il tuo romanzo Blackwood diventasse un film quali attori sceglieresti per impersonare i protagonisti?

Who are your favourite female authors? Have you ever met them in a Convention or similar?

Kristen Ashley, who I've met and who is a wonderful human being. Sarah J. Maas; I haven't met her yet, but I love her A Court of Thorns and Roses series. J.R. Ward; Black Dagger Brotherhood for life!

Tell us a weird or funny anecdote tied to your work as writer.

Raccontaci un aneddoto bizzarro o divertente legato al tuo lavoro di scrittrice.

I use "I'm a writer" as an excuse every time I go to one of my kids' parent-teacher conferences and am in dire need of a shower, some makeup, and clean clothes.

Uso l'espressione "Sono una scrittrice" come scusa ogni volta che devo andare ad un incontro genitori/insegnanti e ho un disperato bisogno di una doccia, trucco e vestiti puliti.

Could you tell us something about your future projects for Italian market?

Puoi dirci qualcosa sui tuoi prossimi progetti per il mercato italiano?

My Christmas novella, Christmas Candy, will be out within the next month with Hope Edizioni, and a novel will be out next year with Hope Edizioni.

La mia novella natalizia, Christmas Candy, uscirà nei prossimi mesi con la Hope Edizioni, e un mio romanzo uscirà l'anno prossimo con la Hope Edizioni.

Is there anything else you would like to tell to your Italian readers?
